Alpha testers needed

( 13 Votes )

It is nearly 23 o'clock. After several weeks of hard work the new alpha release is on the way! The backend was completely refactored* and the frontend structure was changed.

Why am I making these changes?

- They are necessary to bring the code base to the level of year 2009. If you look at our development site. You will see that the wish list (feature tracker) is constantly growing. What was always stoping me from working on the wish list is that one small feature, that would normally take 2h to code, takes 6-8h to make. With the new changes we can be calm that small changes to the existing code will not cause a disaster.

A nice improvement from these changes should be the speed. Today I figured out that my development installation of joomla makes 24 queries to the database on the frontpage when joomlacomment is turned off. When I turned on joomlacomment 4.0 beta2 with support for community builder the queries went to 58. The new version makes only 33 :)

What is left?

I still have to write a new installation script, few changes to the frontend and so on. I hope to be ready by the end of the week.

How can you help with all this? As the title of this blog post says: I'm looking for alpha testers :) If you are interested you can subscribe to this Alpha & Beta testers forum.

There will be also a lot of work for translators. The backend doesn't use anymore php files to store language strings. Now everything is stored in the .ini files. Those old php language files need to be updated to the new model now :)

There is work for everyone who wishes to participate! Thank you for the help in advance!

*refactoring is the process of changing a computer program's internal structure without modifying its external functional behavior or existing functionality

    Hello Daniel,

I think I'm not enough competent of beingt an alpha-tester. I just don't have the technical skills for it.
So I will wait for at least the beta-version.
Unless you can assure I won't meet great problems installing the alpha-version.

I wish you success in finishing your job!

Well, Alan. If you know how to install joomla on localhost, then you should be able to help us with testing :)
Just install, try to post few comments, go through the backend and see if everything is working. If it is not, then tell us the steps to reproduce the bug. This is all I want from you guys!

    Hi there
I installed !JoComment 4.1 alpha1, and for this moment it works fine :cheer:
I translated the language file for Arabic. But the view is always from left to right.
How to reverse it, because the arabic language is written from right to left.
Thank you for the great and nice job :woohoo:

I'm currently putting together a joomla site for a friend of mine, not as a developer but as a graphic designer. After doing some research, I hit upon Joomlacomments to use for a comments component. I'm still fooling around adjusting a template to get comments to look right. I could use your help with that and I would be happy to alpha test the new version, if you think my skills would fit the bill. I'm not too technical. I know some css, so long as it's not to complex, and html. I can use javascript, but can't write it. and php is greek to me.

If you need some kind of help with joomlacomment you can always use the forum. I always answer every question.

If you wish to test the alfa, you can download, test it and report any bugs you find in it.

    Hi Daniel,

I made some hacking in your code (4.0 Alpha3) to get the registered users profile and auto-fill the input fields with their info, and locking it.
This allows me to rely on the posted info and fight spam.
There was also some issues with UTF-8 and special characters, but got it running.

In the next days I'll try to use it with hwdMediaShare. Let you know soon...

Right now, I do not have any project to fit this extension from scratch (4.1 Alpha2), but I'll try to use it a.s.a.p!
Thanks for your time and patience coding this "must have" extension.

    it not actually a bug.
It was build like this with no modified field in the database.
We are slowly rebuilding the database, but it all takes time :) (there are always more urgent things to do)

Best support, fast upgrades

I don't really leave as many reviews as I should, but the support provided by Daniel is on par with the other leading extensions support groups.
I bought the component and installed it, and had questions about some customization (support for JomSocial + Avatars). I posted my questions on the forum, and within a couple of hours I had a very helpful response. I used to use the free !JoomlaComment extension, but when I saw that they went "pro" I definitely trusted their work on my site....

Professional coded..

Easy and quick install, a lot of features (antispam protection, quoting previous comments, reply to comments, rss and e-mail subscription...). I've tested some other comment modules for joomla and compojoom is one of the best because of the features and I've found no bug at all during testing...
